Standing Together to Prevent Homelessness: AAL Supports Family Promise of Waukesha County

At American Advantage Lindow Insurance, supporting the communities we serve goes far beyond providing quality insurance coverage. It means partnering with local organizations that are doing life-changing work and Family Promise of Waukesha County is one of those organizations.

Since opening its doors in 2014, Family Promise has helped over 525 families in Waukesha County navigate some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Whether through emergency shelter, homelessness prevention, or long-term stabilization programs, Family Promise empowers families to regain their independence with dignity, compassion, and community support.

“The mission of Family Promise of Waukesha County is to help low-income families and families experiencing homelessness achieve sustainable independence through a community-based response,” explains Joe Nettesheim, Executive Director. “We approach each family with a trauma-informed lens because losing one’s home is a chaotic and destructive experience.”

The organization’s work spans four core programs: Homelessness Prevention, Emergency Shelter using single-family apartments, Shelter Diversion, and long-term Stabilization. These services address both the immediate and lasting challenges that come with housing insecurity and they make a meaningful difference.

Homelessness prevention, in particular, plays a vital role.

“When a family loses their home, it impacts everything—career, education, mental and physical health. Prevention is cheaper in every way imaginable: psychologically, emotionally, spiritually, and financially,” says Nettesheim. “It costs about ten times more to help a family find new housing than to help them stay in their current home.”

But no one organization can solve these challenges alone. Family Promise thrives because of partnerships with local businesses, faith groups, civic organizations, and individuals who step up to lend their time, resources, and care.

“As the number of families experiencing homelessness grows—even here in Waukesha County—we know it takes more than one agency. That’s why a community response is at the heart of our mission.”

That’s also why American Advantage Lindow Insurance is proud to contribute to this mission. This month, Lindow is making a $2,500 donation to Family Promise to help support families at risk of eviction or in need of urgent shelter.

“Your support will allow a family to keep their home and be relieved of the stress of facing an eviction,” said Nettesheim. “We are extremely grateful. Over the past five years, the number of families we serve has grown, but we’re only able to fulfill about 30% of the requests for help. Every donation helps us maintain and expand our reach.”
